Cover Letter Writer · Sample Output

A cover letter that argues,
not repeats the resume.

Elena Vasquez is applying for Senior Product Designer at Fieldstone. In one page she answers the only three questions a hiring manager has: do you understand our problem, have you solved it before, and why us — specifically?

1page, 312 words — nothing spills to page two

This is a sample output of the Cover Letter Writer skill — a complete, fictional letter produced by its method. The full workflow, hook formulas, and adaptation kit live inside the paid skill.

The letter

Read it as a hiring manager would: hook first, two proof stories, one company fact, a meeting request. Numbered marks map to the technique notes below.

Maya Alvarez, Head of Design
Fieldstone, Inc.
San Francisco, CA

Dear Ms. Alvarez:

1 Fieldstone is rebuilding onboarding for teams that have never used a design tool. I rebuilt exactly that flow — and lifted trial-to-paid conversion from 9% to 27% in one quarter.

At Meridian, a 40-person SaaS company, I owned onboarding end to end. I replaced a 14-step setup with guided templates and in-product checklists, cutting time-to-first-design from 3 days to 40 minutes and raising activation 22%. When support tickets about setup fell 61%, we knew the redesign had removed the real friction, not just restyled it.

2 That work maps directly to the role's second must-have: a design system that scales. I built Meridian's first shared component library — 84 components, adopted by all four product teams — which cut design-to-ship time for new flows from three weeks to five days. I would bring the same system discipline to Fieldstone's recent launch of collaborative boards for non-technical teams, the audience I have spent three years designing for.

3 I would welcome a 30-minute conversation about Fieldstone's onboarding rebuild and what Meridian's numbers suggest for it. Thank you for considering my application.

Sincerely,
Elena Vasquez

Why each paragraph works

① The why-them hook

Opens with Fieldstone's problem, not "I am writing to apply…". The hiring manager reads their own problem back, then a number — in the first two sentences.

② Two proof stories, both numbered

One story per must-have, each in STAR-P shape: situation, action in the JD's verb, measured result, tie-line to this role. No duties list, no adjectives doing the work of evidence.

③ A close that asks for a meeting

Not "I hope to hear from you" — a specific 30-minute conversation about a specific project. The letter has made its case; the close asks for the next step.

④ One defensible company fact

The collaborative-boards launch is the sentence a template cannot write. It proves the letter was written for Fieldstone, and it survives the first interview question.

The opener, before and after

✕ BEFORE — the generic opener

"I am writing to apply for the Senior Product Designer position at your innovative company. I am a passionate, dynamic professional with extensive experience in design."

✓ AFTER — the problem hook

"Fieldstone is rebuilding onboarding for teams that have never used a design tool. I rebuilt exactly that flow — and lifted trial-to-paid conversion from 9% to 27% in one quarter."

Reuse it in 30 minutes

Five sentences change per application; everything else stays. The skill's adaptation kit marks them for you.

AudienceWhat changes
StartupShorter (250–300 words), product-first hook, first names if the posting uses them.
CorporateFormal salutation, risk-aware language: stakeholders, governance, rollout.
ReferralOne warm sentence naming the referrer and the conversation — then identical proof.

Fictional sample: Elena Vasquez and Fieldstone are invented for demonstration. The Cover Letter Writer skill ships with the full 7-step workflow, hook formulas, STAR-P story builder, and adaptation kit.
